The Statue of Liberty

The Statue of Liberty is on Liberty Island in New York Harbor. The statue was a gift from France for the 100th anniversary of the United States in 1876. She is a symbol of freedom, and she welcomes the people of the world to the United States.

パストラミサンドイッチ

パストラミサンドイッチは、ベーグルと並びニューヨーカーに人気の食べ物で、有名なデリにはパストラミサンドイッチを求める人で長い行列ができます。パストラミは食塩水につけ込んだ牛肉に香辛料をたっぷりまぶして燻製にし、さらに蒸したもので、もともと保存食 として作られました。

バストラミもベーグルも、ユダヤ系移民によってアメリカにもたらされました。ユダヤ教の掟に従って作られた食べ物をkosher foodと言います。ニューヨークシティには大きなユダヤ人コミュニティーがあり、kosher food をあつかうkosher deli をよく見かけます。パストラミサンドイッチは、そうした店の定番メニューです。
