アメリカでは、長い夏休みを終えて9月から新学年が始まります。モールやスーパー マーケットでは8月ごろから back-to-school sale(新学期セール)が始まり、学用 品のほか、衣類や靴などを買いととのえる親子でにぎわいます。

新学期が始まってまもなく行われる保護者会は、back-to-school nightと呼 ばれています。night からわかるように、多くの保護者たちの仕事が終わったあと の夜に開かれます。
